Lucky Chickens

For many years, I've driven past the barn on the right and thought it was so beautiful. The field always had some type of crop growing or cattle grazing on the lush grass, so I never thought about stopping. A few weeks ago, I was driving the same road I've traveled with my family for years, when I noticed the cattle and barbed wire fence were gone. I also saw a narrow dirt path possibly cleared by a tractor, and decided to stop on my way home to satisfy my attraction of the old barn. So I did.

I got out of my car and walked around the barn and snapped picture after picture. The barn was even more beautiful up close. I was a little nervous trying to watch for rattle snakes and for that reason I did not go inside the magnificent old barn, plus I didn't know if the barn door was safe to open.

I wasn't surprised when my illustrator drew a similar barn for Three Purple Frogs. This style of barn is a common site on my well-traveled highway. These barns were used for storing farm equipment, but in Three Purple Frogs, the yellow barn was home to green chickens. Twenty Lucky Green Chickens!
